The Farfalla apartment on the first floor of the farmhouse faces west and overlooks the Mugello valley. Access is at the back side, from a small terrace that is directly connected to the garden. On the small terrace there are two small sofas and a small table ideal for a relaxing moment or for working quietly outdoors.

Farfalla means Butterfly, is a symbol of change, of transformation: many people have passed through this house as they went through phases of evolution in their lives, in particular the migrants and asylum seekers we welcomed between 2011 and 2019. This is why we wanted to call it that, in memory of the people we met during those years and hoping that it will be a good auspice for those who want to spend in this house a piece of their ‘walk’.

We have recently restored the floors recovering the original terracotta tiles and completely redone the bathroom. The rooms are 25sqm and 15sqm, both served by WIFI. In each room you will find a workstation, clean linen (changed weekly), weekly housekeeping, a comfortable wardrobe for your clothes. The bathroom is in the corridor and reserved for the rooms of the apartment only.

room achillea

Achillea (Yarrow) is a plant that grows wild in the meadows around Tertulia and turns white in spring. The room is spacious and bright, with a view of the valley from its window. The work table is handcrafted from a single plank of wood we bought from a local sawmill. The wardrobe, on the other hand, has been decorated to make it unique and pleasant and is recovered like so much of the furniture we have at Tertulia, because we prefer to give new life to recovered furniture that is often destroyed and discarded rather than buy new ones (and of course, you can also save money by doing so)! You can’t see it in the photo, but the room is equipped with a ceiling fan to cool down even on hot summer days.

room malva

Malva (Mauve) room is the central room in the apartment. Its name is an acknowledgement to one of the most common wild plants around the house and easy to recognise by its large leaves and purple flowers. We often use it as herbal tea accompanied by sage mint and rosemary… The room is more intimate, an area sufficient, however, to accommodate a double bed, a capacious wardrobe and a solid wood workstation custom-built from local timber. The original terracotta floor is with characteristic hexagonal tiles in a warm and welcoming colour. The stunning view of the valley to the west allows one to watch the sunset and enjoy the light until the end of the day.
